Horvat Memorial Ride Supports Sheboygan County Sheriff's Drone Team

Annual fundraiser honors Jensen Horvat and bolsters local law enforcement resources

The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office Drone Team has received a significant boost from the community, thanks to the 3rd Annual Jensen Horvat Memorial Ride and Fundraiser held on August 16th.

This event honors the memory of Jensen Horvat, a Sheboygan resident who tragically lost his life to mental illness four years ago.

Proceeds from the fundraiser support mental health awareness initiatives through various agencies, including Mental Health America.

In a generous act, the Horvat family directed a portion of this year's funds to the Sheriff's Office, specifically to enhance the capabilities of the Drone Unit.

The Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude, noting that the Horvat family recognizes the vital role the Drone Team plays in ensuring the health, safety, and wellness of Sheboygan County's citizens.

The Drone Unit has been instrumental in various operations, including search and rescue missions and assessing damage after natural disasters.

For instance, during a massive apartment fire in Plymouth, the drones were used to identify hot spots on the roof, aiding firefighters in their efforts.

Additionally, the drones have been deployed in manhunts, searching farm fields and wooded areas for suspects attempting to evade law enforcement.

The Sheriff's Office plans to expand the Drone Unit by licensing more pilots, aiming to have four additional licensed drone pilots by December.

This expansion will further enhance the department's ability to respond to emergencies and serve the community effectively.

The Horvat family's contribution underscores the community's commitment to supporting both mental health awareness and local law enforcement resources.

Such partnerships are crucial in fostering a safer and more resilient Sheboygan County.
